Our School Based Wellness Programs, and The Priority Care Center (PCC) in Eureka are always seeking interns. Interns are an integral part of our team. Students can expand hands on learning opportunities, that will aid them in long term professional development.
The School Based Wellness Center
The School-Based Wellness Center Intern will have the opportunity to support students on a school site. Some of these sites include: Eureka Court and Community School, McKinleyville Middle School, McKinleyville High School, and College of the Redwoods. Our interns will have a variety of opportunities through co facilitating youth empowerment groups, assisting in the operations of the Wellness Centers, and providing students with one on one support. The Intern will be required to attend a 2 day training and orientation, along with ample amounts of opportunities for professional development through additional trainings. One of the organizations we closely collaborate with is the One Circle Foundation and we intimately adhere to their youth counseling guidelines.
Priority Care Center
The Priority Care Center Interns have the option to work in person or remotely. The PCC Intern team works with the Medical Social Worker to reach out to Members regarding Social Determinants of Health needs, Preventive Care and Resource Referral. Interns receive weekly one-on-one and group supervision. Interns also participate in weekly Case Conference with the clinical team.
Interns will have an opportunity to develop and apply the skills they are learning in the classroom. Interns will also establish critical networking connections, and build contacts in the field. Interns are supported through ongoing trainings, and mentoring.
Although The Humboldt IPA partners with the Humboldt State University Social Work program to recruit interested interns, we are open to any major and background applying. We do not require any previous experience. However, some basic computer skills are necessary.
The School Based Wellness Centers require a background check.
Interns must be committed to delivering equitable, trauma-informed, care.
Interns are required to fill out an application. (send completed applications to firstname.lastname@example.org) A representative from the assigned department will contact you within 10 business days to schedule an interview. Most interviews take place in the summer, and winter months to coincide with school breaks. In addition to our application, please include a resume and a cover letter.
Past Internship Projects
In addition to completing nearly 500 Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) outreach calls and scheduling around 100 Mammograms at the PCC, the PCC 2020-2021 interns created an impressive SDoH Outreach Manual that will help our future interns be successful in their positions.
